AIEgen for cancer discrimination

Ruoyao Zhang et al.

Summary: Cancer is a severe disease with unique biological features that can be accurately discriminated using fluorescent imaging technologies, particularly through aggregation-induced emission (AIE) technique. AIEgens, non-emissive in molecular state but enhanced emission in aggregated state, have emerged as powerful tools in cancer discrimination, overcoming limitations of conventional fluorescent dyes.

Rational Design of Dendritic Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles' Surface Chemistry for Quantum Dot Enrichment and an Ultrasensitive Lateral Flow Immunoassay

Fang Gao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of surface chemistry of dendritic mesoporous silica nanoparticles (DMSNs) on their enrichment of quantum dots (QDs) and signal amplification as label materials. The amino groups on DMSNs are found to benefit QD fluorescence preservation, while thiol groups increase QD loading capacity. Optimized DMSNs-QDs labels achieve high QD fluorescence preservation and loading capacity, enabling ultrasensitive detection of serum amyloid A (SAA).

AIEgens enabled ultrasensitive point-of-care test for multiple targets of food safety: Aflatoxin B1 and cyclopiazonic acid as an example

Xiaofeng Hu et al.

Summary: Food safety is a crucial issue for human health, and fluorescent nanomaterials have been used in point-of-care tests (POCT). However, previous materials may reduce detection sensitivity, while aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) show promise for enhancing sensitivity and throughput. AIEgens-based lateral-flow biosensors have been developed for on-site detection of mycotoxins with rapid response times and high sensitivity in peanut matrices.

Luminous silica colloids with carbon dot incorporation for sensitive immunochromatographic assay of Zika virus

Lai-Di Xu et al.

Summary: A novel strategy of assembling silanized carbon dots with porous silica templates to form fluorescent CD-based silica colloids has been reported. The integration of these FCS colloids with a lateral flow strip platform provides a highly sensitive and specific immunoassay method for the Zika NS1 protein with a visual detection limit of 10 pg mL(-1). Comparison shows that the detection limit of iFCS-based lateral flow test strips is 100-fold lower than that of Au NP-based lateral flow strips.
