Activatable molecular probes for fluorescence-guided surgery, endoscopy and tissue biopsy

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: Activatable molecular probes have shown great potential in surgical imaging and diagnosis by offering high target-to-background ratios with high specificity and sensitivity through turning on their signals upon reaction with targeted biomolecules. They not only ensure complete resection of malignant tissues, but also better preservation of vital organs and tissues during surgical procedures.

A dual-targeted organelles SO2 specific probe for bioimaging in related diseases and food analysis

Yongfei Huang et al.

Summary: Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is a reactive sulfur species mainly produced in mitochondria, and excessive inhalation can cause harm to the respiratory tract, cardiovascular system, and even lead to cancer. The interaction between mitochondria and lysosomes is crucial for maintaining cellular homeostasis, and SO2 has been found to play an active role in this process. By constructing fluorescent probes, researchers were able to target mitochondria and lysosomes accurately and detect the concentration of SO2 as well as sulfite levels.

Rational design of dual ratiometric photoacoustic and fluorescent probe for reliable imaging and quantitative detection of endogenous CO during drug-induced liver injury and repair

Li Liu et al.

Summary: This study reported a novel dual ratiometric probe DOP-CO for reliable imaging and quantitative detection of carbon monoxide (CO) in live animals. The probe showed successful application in imaging the release behavior of exogenous and endogenous CO and provided valuable insights into the relationship between CO fluctuations and liver injury. It also offers a promising tool for investigating more CO-mediated biological processes.

Local detection of pH-induced disaggregation of biocompatible micelles by fluorescence switch ON

Giulia Battistelli et al.

Summary: Fluorogenic nanoparticles that can respond to different physiological environments and differentially release drugs have great potential in nanomedicine. pH-responsive NPs, especially, have the ability to distinguish cancer tissues, release drugs selectively, and act as pH biosensors. The assembly of ROMP block-copolymers provides a solid route for the design and synthesis of pH-responsive fluorogenic micelles. This approach shows promise in the development of novel nano-theranostic agents.

A Supramolecular Strategy to Engineering a Non-photobleaching and Near-Infrared Absorbing Nano-J-Aggregate for Efficient Photothermal Therapy

Meihui Su et al.

Summary: A supramolecular strategy was presented to build a water-stable, nonphotobleaching, and NIR-absorbing nano-PTA (J-NP) from J-aggregation of halogenated BODIPY dyes for efficient in vivo photothermal therapy. The remodeled J-NP significantly improved cellular uptake efficiency and exhibited efficient antitumor photothermal activities in vivo. This work not only establishes a supramolecular platform for high photothermal performance PTAs but also enables appealing optical functions derived from J-aggregation to be applied in vivo.
