Narrow-Linewidth Er-Doped Fiber Lasers With Random Distributed Feedback Provided By Artificial Rayleigh Scattering

Mikhail Skvortsov et al.

Summary: A compact random fiber laser based on a short artificial Rayleigh reflector and heavily-doped Er fibers has been proposed and optimized in terms of efficiency, linewidth, and noise level. The use of a femtosecond direct writing technique allows the fabrication of an artificial Rayleigh reflector with low insertion loss and high scattering level. The random laser shows high power, slope efficiency, and signal-to-noise ratio, with the potential for tunability.

Switchable and compact dual-wavelength random fiber laser based on random Bragg grating array

Bing Lv et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a switchable dual-wavelength random fiber laser (DW-RFL) with a compact structure and a low-threshold. A Fabry-Perot interferometer consisting of a pair of fiber Bragg gratings is used as a filter in the DW-RFL to select two lasing wavelengths. By utilizing a random Bragg grating array (RBGA) instead of long-distance single mode fiber, the threshold is reduced and the stability is improved. Wavelength selection and switching can be achieved by tuning the pump power. The proposed DW-RFL has potential applications in microwave or terahertz generation systems, optical sensing, coherent communication, and high-resolution measurements.

Low Frequency-Noise Ring Random Fiber Laser With a Dual-Cavity FBG Fabry-Perot Filter

Bing Lv et al.

Summary: A low frequency-noise ring random fiber laser (RFL) based on random Bragg grating array (RBGA) feedback is proposed. The dual-cavity fiber Bragg grating Fabry-Perot (FBG-FP) filter is specially designed to suppress frequency jitter and undesired random lasing modes, achieving stable laser output and reduced frequency noise.

Research on high precision optical fiber acoustic emission system for weak damage location on concrete

Shuaijie Miao et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a high precision optical fiber acoustic emission (AE) locating system for weak damage source location on concrete, using designed random fiber lasers (RFLs) and an adaptive time of arrival extraction strategy. The system achieves a high signal detection resolution of 8.32 x 10(-7) m/s within 500 kHz due to the low frequency-noise and narrow linewidth of RFLs. The reliability of the system is verified by simulation and experiment, and the accuracy and robustness of the location are analyzed.

Single-frequency erbium-doped fibre laser with random distributed feedback based on disordered structures produced by femtosecond laser radiation

M. Skvortsov et al.

Summary: In this study, a narrow-band erbium fiber laser with random distributed feedback produced by femtosecond laser writing in half-open cavity and ring cavity configurations was reported. Single-frequency lasing was observed in both configurations, with different output powers achieved.

Demonstration of High-Resolution DFB Fiber Laser Acoustic Emission Sensing System for CFRP Laminates

Jianxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an interrogation method to enhance the resolution of DFB fiber laser acoustic emission sensing system, which achieves improved system performance and resolution compared to traditional methods by correcting ellipse coefficients. In a tensile test on CFRP laminates, the improved system outperformed the PZT sensor, accurately identifying different stages of the failure process.

Random Bragg-grating-based wavelength-tunable random fiber laser with a full-open cavity

Bing Lu et al.

Summary: The proposed full-open-cavity wavelength-tunable random fiber laser features a compact structure and a wide tuning range, utilizing a pi fiber Bragg grating as a wavelength-selecting filter. It has a low laser threshold and high stability due to the two random Bragg grating arrays and a high gain erbium-doped fiber.
