Ethylene-activated PpERF105 induces the expression of the repressor-type R2R3-MYB gene PpMYB140 to inhibit anthocyanin biosynthesis in red pear fruit

Junbei Ni et al.

Summary: Ethylene induces anthocyanin biosynthesis in most fruits, but inhibits it in pears. The transcription factor PpERF105 activated the expression of PpMYB140, which then inhibited the anthocyanin biosynthesis in pears. The competition between PpMYB140 and PpMYB114 led to the formation of a complex that further inhibited anthocyanin biosynthesis.

The MdHY5-MdWRKY41-MdMYB transcription factor cascade regulates the anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin biosynthesis in red-fleshed apple

Zuolin Mao et al.

Summary: The study revealed the regulatory role of MdWRKY41 in anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin synthesis in red-fleshed apple fruits, showing its interaction with other transcription factors and structural genes. Interestingly, MdWRKY41 was also found to be targeted and inhibited by the photoresponse factor MdHY5, providing insights into a novel regulatory module influencing pigment synthesis in red-fleshed apples.

Transcriptome Co-Expression Network Analysis Identifies Key Genes and Regulators of Sweet Cherry Anthocyanin Biosynthesis

Haiying Yang et al.

Summary: The study revealed variations in anthocyanin accumulation in sweet cherry flesh and peel, with a sharp increase in anthocyanin content at the dark red stage. RNA-seq and WGCNA identified two structural genes and 11 transcription factors with similar expression patterns to anthocyanin changes. Real-time PCR confirmed these gene expression patterns, indicating PacANS had the highest transcription level. Dual-luciferase assay suggested two bHLH transcription factors could regulate anthocyanin synthesis in sweet cherry fruits.
