Farmers' knowledge and practice regarding good agricultural practices (GAP) on safe pesticide usage in Indonesia

Istriningsih et al.

Summary: There is a gap between farmers' knowledge of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for safe pesticide usage and their application of it in Indonesia. High levels of knowledge do not always result in high levels of application, particularly in areas such as wearing protective gear and proper disposal of empty containers. This study highlights the need to enhance farmers' knowledge through technical training programs for the adoption of GAP.

Telomere Length Alterations in Occupational Toxicants Exposure: An Integrated Review of the Literature

Chiat Yin Ng et al.

Summary: Different occupational exposures to toxicants may lead to varying changes in telomere length, with factors such as individual characteristics, lifestyle, dose, and exposure duration potentially modulating the effects. Oxidative stress, telomerase expression, systemic inflammation, and other factors may contribute to the impact on telomere length.

Summary: Brazil is the second largest exporter of agricultural products globally, with widespread use of pesticides in crops, posing threats to water resources and organisms. While most environmental concentrations are below allowed limits according to Brazilian legislation, they still pose a high risk to aquatic ecosystems.

Pesticide residues in drinking water, their potential risk to human health and removal options

Ibrahim El-Nahhal et al.

Summary: The study highlights the presence of pesticide residues in drinking water samples from 31 countries, with a variety of insecticide, herbicide, and fungicide residues identified. Hazard indices exceeded one in many cases, indicating potential health risks to adults, children, and infants. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) proved effective in removing pesticide residues from water systems.

Association between pesticide exposure and colorectal cancer risk and incidence: A systematic review

Eryn K. Matich et al.

Summary: The systematic literature review found both positive and inverse associations between pesticide exposure and CRC risk, with no overall conclusion on whether there is a positive or inverse relationship. Certain pesticides were highlighted as of great or moderate concern for their elevated risk of CRC, particularly due to their legal or illegal usage in the US. This study’s results shed light on the health disparities related to CRC in rural communities with pesticide exposure.

Pesticide usage practices as sources of occupational exposure and health impacts on horticultural farmers in Meru County, Kenya

Gabriel M. Marete et al.

Summary: This study examined pesticide usage practices, knowledge, and health effects on horticultural farmers in three sub-counties in Meru, Kenya. The research found that there is a gap in knowledge and implementation of government regulations on pesticide use, with some banned pesticides still being used. Additionally, a significant number of farmers do not wear proper protective clothing when applying pesticides, highlighting a potential health risk.
