Streamflow variability controls N and P export and speciation from Alaskan coastal temperate rainforest watersheds

Jason B. Fellman et al.

Summary: The study found that the export of nitrogen and phosphorus from the perhumid coastal temperate rainforest of northwestern North America is influenced by seasonal and stormflow events, showing a pulsed nature in the magnitude and species of nutrients exported.

Nitrogen/phosphorus behavior traits and implications during storm events in a semi-arid mountainous watershed

H. K. M. Mihiranga et al.

Summary: The study in a semi-arid watershed in China found a strong linkage between storm events and nitrogen/phosphorus dynamics in rivers, with particulate-P and ammonia-N showing significant increases in fluxes during storm runoff. The results suggest that storm magnitude, total suspended solids/particulate-P availability and mobilization processes are important factors influencing nutrient behaviors in semi-arid watersheds.

Storm event impacts on in-stream nitrate concentration and discharge dynamics: A comparison of high resolution in-situ measured data with model simulations

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of the SWAT model in reproducing the dynamics of NO3-N during storm events in the Raab catchment in Austria. The results showed that the model was able to replicate the predominant anticlockwise hysteresis and dilution effect of NO3-N in the catchment.

Large-scale hybrid accidental urban wetland for polluted river purification in northern China: Evidence and implications for urban river management

Mathieu Nsenga Kumwimba et al.

Summary: Hybrid accidental urban wetlands (HAUWs) are potential low-cost and highly efficient means of reducing pollutant loads in urban areas compared to current single-stage systems. A field-scale evaluation in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province demonstrated that the HAUW system could effectively remove pollutants such as TN, NH4-N, NO3-N, TP, and PO4-P, especially during the summer-autumn season. Removal efficiencies were found to be sensitive to temperature and exhibit seasonal trends.
