The Cu/Fe magnetic yoke with novel interface and excellent mechanical properties by friction stir welding

Mengran Zhou et al.

Summary: A novel Fe/Cu interface with excellent mechanical properties was successfully fabricated using friction stir welding, which eliminated defects commonly found in conventional bead welding and improved the performance of the Cu/Fe interface formed by fusion welding.

A comprehensive investigation of carbon micro-alloying on microstructure evolution and properties of metastable immiscible Cu-Fe alloy

Shipeng Yue et al.

Summary: The present study comprehensively investigated the effect of C micro-alloying on the microstructure evolution and properties of Cu-20Fe metastable immiscible alloy. The results show that the microstructure of the Cu-Fe alloy is highly sensitive to the C content. C micro-alloying promotes liquid-liquid phase separation and deteriorates the soft magnetic properties but improves the wear resistance of the Cu-Fe alloy.

Effect of solidification models on predicting susceptibility of carbon steels to solidification cracking

Tayfun Soysal

Summary: This study shows that different solidification models can predict the susceptibility of carbon steels to cracking, with the Scheil model with back diffusion having better predictive results. The role of alloying elements in the solidification cracking susceptibility of carbon steels was discussed as well.

Metallurgical joining of aluminium and copper using resistance spot welding: microstructure and mechanical properties

Mohammad Zare et al.

Summary: Metallurgical bonding between Al and Cu was achieved through the brazing mechanism, leading to the formation of a complex microstructure in the joint. The peak load and energy absorption of the Al/Cu joints were found to be controlled by the effective length of the solid/liquid reaction zone and the thickness of the theta-Al2Cu primary solidification phase.

Experimental study of Cu/Fe underwater self-constrained explosive welding tube

Qichao Tian et al.

Summary: Copper/steel composite tubes were produced using an underwater explosive welding process in this study. The results showed that the aqueous medium as a constraint helped protect the inner tube cladding surface, reduce shape distortion, and lower the stringent requirements on the outer steel die. Additionally, a high-strength fine grain layer was observed at the copper/steel bond interface, with work hardening occurring near the interface after tube lamination.

A criterion to find crack-resistant aluminium alloys to avoid solidification cracking

Tayfun Soysal

Summary: Aluminium alloys are prone to solidification cracking, but a criterion using a cracking index and phase diagrams can determine their susceptibility and resistance to cracking. Adjusting the amount of filler metal based on this criterion can reduce the crack susceptibility of certain aluminium alloys.
