The lexicon of antimicrobial peptides: a complete set of arginine and tryptophan sequences

Sam Clark et al.

Summary: Clark et al. comprehensively explore the primary structural features underlying the activity of a complete set of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). They find that the shortest active peptides were 4 or 5 residues in length, with activity being associated with 40% arginine, and multiple adjacent tryptophan residues. This study provides insights into the design of effective AMPs.

Synthetic Antimicrobial Peptides: III-Effect of Cationic Groups of Lysine, Arginine, and Histidine on Antimicrobial Activity of Peptides with a Linear Type of Amphipathicity

N. Amirkhanov et al.

Summary: The study found that antimicrobial peptides with arginine residues exhibited the highest antibacterial activity, while those with histidine residues showed the lowest activity. Furthermore, peptides with histidine residues displayed significantly increased antifungal activity against Candida albicans.
