Extended ultrasound examination identifies more large vessel involvement in patients with giant cell arteritis

Summary: This study compared limited ultrasound examination with extended A2-ultrasound examination in detecting large vessel involvement in newly diagnosed giant cell arteritis (GCA) patients. The results showed that the extended A2-ultrasound method identified more cases with large vessel involvement.

Summary: The involvement of axillary artery in giant cell arteritis (GCA) affects clinical outcomes. Patients with axillary artery involvement tend to have longer treatment duration and higher glucocorticoid requirements. Relapses result in an increase of the intima media thickness.
