Green products from herbal medicine wastes by subcritical water treatment

Maryam Jouyandeh et al.

Summary: Herbal medicine wastes (HMWs) are mainly landfilled for environmental problems, but their conversion to green products through subcritical water treatment proves to be effective, with about 99% of HMWs efficiently converted to clean products at low extraction times and high temperatures. Substances such as organic acids, amino acids, and sugars are produced, showing potential as new material sources.

A novel green strategy for biorecovery of valuable elements along with enrichment of rare earth elements from activated spent automotive catalysts using fungal metabolites

Nazanin Bahaloo-Horeh et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel green strategy for treating spent automotive catalytic converters by using oxalic acid-enriched spent culture medium from Aspergillus niger cultivations. By optimizing the production of oxalic acid and utilizing fungal metabolites for metal recovery, efficient metal recovery from SACCs and enrichment of rare earth elements (REEs) were achieved.

Evaluation of Different Amino Acids on Growth and Cyanide Production by Bacillus megaterium for Gold Recovery

Fariborz Faraji et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of amino acids on the production of bio-cyanide using Bacillus megaterium. It is found that glycine yields a higher concentration of bio-cyanide compared to threonine and glutamine. Optimization experiments reveal that the optimal medium for bio-cyanide production does not contain threonine and can achieve gold leaching efficiency comparable to chemical cyanide.
