Effect of heavy metals on epididymal morphology and function: An integrative review

Mariana Machado-Neves

Summary: Male fertility has declined in recent decades, and environmental risk factors such as heavy metals may be a possible cause. This study conducted a meta-analysis of 138 studies and found that exposure to inorganic arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury reduces epididymal weight, sperm motility, and sperm number. The study also revealed that these metals damage sperm structures within the epididymal duct and disrupt the balance of important minerals. These findings highlight the potential hazards of heavy metal exposure on male reproductive health.

Gastroprotective effect of low dose Eugenol in experimental rats against ethanol induced toxicity: Involvement of antiinflammatory and antioxidant mechanism

Yahya Hasan Hobani et al.

Summary: Our findings indicated that eugenol has a significant gastroprotective effect at low doses, which can be attributed to its ability to regulate inflammatory reactions and antioxidant capacity. The protective effect of eugenol was enhanced by restoring the lowered GSH and NP-SH levels. Eugenol pre-treatment reduced plasma NO levels and increased PGE2, while decreasing TNF-alpha and IL-6 concentrations. The expression of HSP70 was upregulated and iNOS was downregulated in eugenol-treated rat stomach tissue.

Effect of eugenol treatment in hyperglycemic murine models: A meta-analysis

Renner Philipe Rodrigues Carvalho et al.

Summary: Eugenol treatment in hyperglycemic rodents showed positive effects in reducing glucose levels, improving lipid profile, reducing oxidative damage, and restoring antioxidant defense system activity. Additionally, the use of purified or non-purified eugenol and the concentrations administered significantly affected the treatment outcome. This suggests that eugenol may have potential therapeutic effects in diabetes treatment.
