Seasonal hydrogen storage decisions under constrained electricity distribution capacity

Jan Eise Fokkema et al.

Summary: This article examines the operation of a profit-maximizing renewable energy producer in a rural area with limited capacity. By utilizing strategic hydrogen reserves to address the uncertainties and intermittencies of energy production, the energy producer is able to generate profits while supplying electricity to a self-sufficient local community. The study emphasizes the importance of considering seasonal demand and production patterns, as well as increasing storage capacity, and highlights that a profit-maximizing hydrogen storage operation alone cannot solve grid congestion.

An integrated optimization framework for multi-component predictive analytics in wind farm operations & maintenance

I Bakir et al.

Summary: An integrated framework combining real-time degradation models and mixed integer optimization models is proposed to guide optimal maintenance and operations of wind farms. The optimization models identify the failure time of components to assess the failure risk of turbines. Extensive experiments demonstrate the performance of the framework for multiple wind farms with 300 turbines and 1200 components.

Hydrogen underground storage efficiency in a heterogeneous sandstone reservoir

Doaa Saleh Mahdi et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of caprock availability and hydrogen injection rate on hydrogen recovery factor and leakage rate in underground hydrogen storage using a three dimensional reservoir model. The findings suggest that both caprock and injection rate play a critical role in hydrogen leakage and the quantities of trapped and recovered hydrogen. Higher injection rates increase H2 leakage when caprocks are absent, while lower injection rates and caprock availability increase the amount of recovered hydrogen.

Modeling the Performance of an Integrated Battery and Electrolyzer System

Andrea Mangel Raventos et al.

Summary: The developed battolyser system can meet different time scale energy requirements, and the model shows that the properties of individual components have a significant impact on overall energy efficiency. Based on the model results, the electrode thickness and porosity of the nickel-iron battery prototype were optimized, while the electrolyte conductivity and gap thickness had minimal effect on efficiency.

Summary: This study reviews the potential establishment of an inter-state hydrogen energy system in the Asia-Pacific region, evaluating countries' technological, social, and economic capacities. Countries with active hydrogen policies and high R&D capacity are likely to lead the strategy, while those with high primary energy supply and economic advantage will benefit the group in energy and commercial resource provisions. Social acceptance and existing energy profiles are also key factors in determining countries' readiness to adopt the new hydrogen energy system.
