Risk coupling analysis of subsea blowout accidents based on dynamic Bayesian network and NK model

Zengkai Liu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel method to quantify risk coupling of subsea blowout accidents based on DBN and NK model. By classifying and analyzing risk factors, a developed DBN model can describe the dynamic characteristics of risk evolution and risk coupling of the accidents. Sensitive analysis and quantification of risk factors' influences can be performed with this model.

Guided simulation for dynamic probabilistic risk assessment of complex systems: Concept, method, and application

Yunwei Hu et al.

Summary: Probabilistic risk assessment is a systematic process used to ensure safety in engineered systems. The complexity of interactions between hardware, software, and humans has made it difficult to enumerate risky scenarios using traditional methods. A new dynamic probabilistic risk assessment methodology is proposed in this study, employing simulation, planner, and scheduler modules to guide risk assessment with engineering knowledge. The effectiveness of the platform is demonstrated through risk assessment of a Space Shuttle ascent phase.

A novel methodology to analyze accident path in deepwater drilling operation considering uncertain information

Xiangkun Meng et al.

Summary: This paper presents an integrated methodology for evaluating deepwater drilling risk by combining directed acyclic graph (DAG) and risk entropy. The methodology includes identifying risk factors, defining failure scenarios, determining failure probabilities and entropy values, and evaluating the most probable path of failure events. The proposed approach is applied in a case study about a managed pressure drilling (MPD) system, showing that changes in uncertainties of risk factors result in variations of the shortest path in both probability values and event sequences.

Accounting for Safety Barriers Degradation in the Risk Assessment of Oil and Gas Systems by Multistate Bayesian Networks

F. Dimaio et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a multistate Bayesian Network (BN) for evaluating the functional performance of safety barriers in Oil and Gas plants, where nodes represent the safety barriers Health States (HSs) and are assessed based on specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Results from a case study demonstrate that the multistate BN model can effectively account for the safety barriers HS and their functional performance.

Probabilistic fatigue failure assessment of free spanning subsea pipeline using dynamic Bayesian network

Xinhong Li et al.

Summary: The probabilistic modeling of free spanning subsea pipeline fatigue failure is a challenging task due to its dynamic characteristics and uncertain information. This paper proposes a dynamic probabilistic methodology to capture the uncertainty and time dependence of fatigue failure scenario. By using Dynamic Bayesian Network, the model can estimate the probabilities of basic causations and assess the dynamic probability of fatigue failure at different time slices.
