Sulfur-nitrogen co-doped graphene supported cobalt-nickel sulfide rGO@SN-CoNi2S4 as highly efficient bifunctional catalysts for hydrogen/oxygen evolution reactions

Bing-Lu Deng et al.

Summary: Designing highly active and stable electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial for energy conversion and storage technology. In this study, a S and N co-doped graphene-supported cobalt-nickel sulfide composite catalyst was synthesized through a one-step hydrothermal method, showing excellent bifunctional catalytic performance under alkaline conditions. The good hydrophilicity of rGO@SN, the pure bimetallic structure, and the chemical coupling/interaction between CoNi2S4 and rGO@SN are believed to contribute to the enhanced HER and OER catalytic activities.

Multi-interface collaboration of graphene cross-linked NiS-NiS2-Ni3S4 polymorph foam towards robust hydrogen evolution in alkaline electrolyte

Haiqing Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a multi-interface engineering strategy to achieve a delicate balance in the kinetics of alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The graphene cross-linked three-phase nickel sulfide foam exhibits superior catalytic activity in alkaline electrolyte and is better than most of the recently reported metal sulfides catalysts. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirm the favorable hydrogen adsorption and metallic nature of the electrocatalyst due to the interfaces between nickel sulfides and cross-linked graphene.

Mechanistic insight into the active centers of single/dual-atom Ni/Fe-based oxygen electrocatalysts

Wenchao Wan et al.

Summary: The authors reported the structural dynamics of dual-site nickel-iron single-atom oxygen electrocatalysts under reaction conditions, proposing a dual-site pathway for the water oxidation reaction. Single-atom catalysts with maximum metal utilization efficiency show great potential for sustainable catalytic applications and fundamental mechanistic studies. The convenient molecular tailoring strategy based on graphitic carbon nitride as support allows for the rational design of single-site and dual-site single-atom catalysts.
