Effectiveness of enhancing contact model on reducing stigma of mental illness among family caregivers of persons with schizophrenia in rural China: A cluster randomized controlled trial

Summary: This study conducted a randomized controlled trial of contact-based intervention among family caregivers of persons with schizophrenia in rural China. The findings suggest that contact-based intervention is effective in reducing stigma among family caregivers and is more effective and stable compared to psychoeducational family intervention.

Knowledge, contact and stigma of mental illness: Comparing three stakeholder groups in Hong Kong

Summary: This study found that mental health workers in Hong Kong have higher knowledge, more contact, and lower stigma of mental illness compared to community residents and family members. Knowledge level and contact quality were significantly associated with lower stigma of mental illness in the three groups, while contact level and quantity were not significantly associated with most stigma components. The study suggests that positive contact reduces stigma of mental illness, while negative contact may increase stigma.

Psychiatric disorders in China: strengths and challenges of contemporary research and clinical services

Progress in neuroscience research and clinical services for psychiatric disorders in China during the past three decades is reviewed, highlighting contributions from studies in epidemiological, genetic, and neuroimaging fields, as well as advancements in large-scale imaging genetic cohorts and brain banks. Opportunities and challenges in research and clinical services are discussed, emphasizing the importance of continued funding investment and international collaborations for sustained advancement in psychiatric research and healthcare system in China.
