Numerical simulation of coal dust self-ignition and combustion under inclination conditions

Xueqiang Shi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the self-ignition and combustion characteristics of coal dust under inclination conditions using a two-step parallel oxidation reaction mechanism, providing a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of coal dust fires. Experimental results show that the self-ignition and combustion process of coal dust can be divided into five stages and the inclination angle affects the minimum ignition temperature, with coal dust deposited under the ceiling being more easily ignited.

Na2CO3 promoted CaO-based heat carrier for thermochemical energy storage in concentrated solar power plants

Yongqing Xu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel Na2CO3 modification method to enhance the energy storage density (ESD) of CaO-based materials in a closed-loop CaL-TCES system. The results show that the 10Na(2)CO(3)/CaO exhibits a higher ESD over the cycles, despite sintering. Furthermore, Na2CO3 improves reaction kinetics and may break through mass transfer barriers to absorb CO2.

Investigation on the co-pyrolysis of agricultural waste and high-density polyethylene using TG-FTIR and artificial neural network modelling

Jishuo Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the individual pyrolysis and co-pyrolysis characteristics of kidney beans stalk (KS) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to realize the utilization of agricultural and plastic waste for alleviating environmental pollution. The results show the occurrence of synergistic and inhibitive effects during co-pyrolysis, with the most significant effect observed at temperatures between 470 and 510 degrees C. The gaseous products of KS pyrolysis mainly consist of oxygen-containing compounds, while those of HDPE pyrolysis mainly consist of hydrocarbons. Co-pyrolysis of samples with different proportions promotes or inhibits the production of certain gaseous products to varying degrees, and the activation energy during co-pyrolysis is lower than that of the pure sample. An artificial neural network (ANN) model is established to effectively predict the mass loss of a sample with temperature.

Impacts of Anisotropic Porosity on Heat Transfer and Off-Gassing during Biomass Pyrolysis

M. Brennan Pecha et al.

Summary: The study explores the impact of implementing anisotropic permeability and diffusivity on the conversion time and yields predicted for pyrolysis of oak and pine particles using a biomass single particle model. It shows that anisotropic permeability significantly affects predicted conversion time when certain nondimensional numbers are met. Additionally, the pore structure can have a significant impact on pyrolytic conversion time, especially in the conduction controlled regime.

Alberto Gala et al.

Summary: The study designed a pilot catalytic hydrotreatment reactor using computational fluid dynamics and considered factors such as fluid flows, gas diffusion, reactions, and heat transfer. The results showed that adjusting the inlet gas temperature and refrigerant oil flow can optimize the system and minimize energy costs. Working at intermediate pressures and increasing H-2 supply can also help avoid condensation in the reactive chamber.

Numerical study on the oxidation reaction characteristics of coal under temperature-programmed conditions

Xueqiang Shi et al.

Summary: The research shows that the reaction between coal and oxygen is influenced by temperature and oxygen concentration, increasing the volume fraction of oxygen and heating rate can promote the reaction between coal and oxygen, and reduce the heating effects under external heating conditions. Therefore, controlling temperature storage conditions can prevent the oxidation reaction of coal, while changing oxygen supply conditions can control the development of coal spontaneous combustion.
