Seven-octave high-brightness and carrier-envelope-phase-stable light source

Ugaitz Elu et al.

Summary: A carrier-envelope-phase-stable light source, driven by a mid-infrared frequency comb, is presented, allowing spectral coverage across seven optical octaves from ultraviolet to terahertz. The high-brightness source offers opportunities for high-dynamic-range spectroscopies and advancements in attosecond physics and material sciences.

All-Optical Probe of Three-Dimensional Topological Insulators Based on High-Harmonic Generation by Circularly Polarized Laser Fields

Denitsa Baykusheva et al.

Summary: The study reports an anomalous nonlinear optical response of bismuth selenide, a prototypical three-dimensional topological insulator, during high-order harmonic generation. It was found that the generation efficiency increases with a change in laser polarization, reaching maximum efficiency under circular polarization. The anomalous enhancement observed encodes the characteristic topology of the band structure, originating from the interplay of strong spin-orbit coupling and time-reversal symmetry protection, with potential implications in ultrafast probing of topological phase transitions, light-field driven dissipationless electronics, and quantum computation.

Tunable non-integer high-harmonic generation in a topological insulator

C. P. Schmid et al.

Summary: This study experimentally demonstrates high-order harmonic generation in a three-dimensional topological insulator, bismuth telluride. By using a specific frequency of the driving field, the generation of high-order harmonics from the bulk and topological surface was successfully differentiated, revealing unconventional HH generation processes.

High harmonic generation in two-dimensional Mott insulators

Christopher Orthodoxou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the attosecond charge dynamics of electrons induced by strong-field laser pulses in two-dimensional Mott insulators using a combination of numerical methods. By going beyond single-particle approaches and contrasting with one-dimensional analogues, the study provides insights into high-harmonic emission and photo-induced breakdown in these systems. The analysis also reveals the time and ultra-high-frequency domains of emission, enhancing understanding of photo-melting in two-dimensional Mott insulators.

Third harmonic generation from collective modes in disordered superconductors

G. Seibold et al.

Summary: Recent experiments in both traditional and unconventional superconductors have shown a marked third-harmonic generation below the superconducting temperature, challenging existing theoretical understanding. By computing the nonlinear current, it is found that paramagnetic effects dominate the quasiparticle response in strong magnetic fields.
