Study on the physico-chemical properties of reduced graphene oxide with different degrees of reduction temperature

Pankaj Kumar et al.

Summary: Thermal reduction is a promising method for synthesizing graphene. In this study, commercially available graphite was chemically oxidized to produce graphene oxide, which was then further reduced via thermal reduction in an inert atmosphere. This process successfully eliminated oxygen-containing functional groups from the structure of graphene oxide, resulting in a high purity graphene product.

Effect of incorporating different ZIF-8 crystal sizes in the polymer of intrinsic microporosity, PIM-1, for CO2/CH4 separation

Mohamed Yahia et al.

Summary: In this study, Zeolitic Imidazole Frameworks (ZIF-8) crystals of different sizes were synthesized and incorporated into the polymer of intrinsic microporosity, PIM-1, to form mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) for effective CO2/CH4 separation. Characterization of MMMs showed that ZIF-8 crystal size greatly influenced gas transport properties, with membranes containing 120 nm ZIF-8 crystals showing the greatest improvement. Aging of the membranes resulted in increased selectivity and decreased permeability, indicating enhanced polymer packing and diffusivity selectivity.

Summary: The interfacial compatibility between fillers and polymers significantly influences the separation performance of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs). In this study, a functional layer veiled zeolite imidazolate frameworks-67 (VZIF-67) was utilized as an efficient nanofiller to fabricate MMMs with enhanced separation performance. By optimizing the loading amount of VZIF-67, the resultant MMMs exhibited improved CO2/CH4 selectivity and CO2 permeability, surpassing the control membrane. Reinforcing the interfacial compatibility between the nanofillers and polymer matrix further enhanced the membrane performance.
