Polyhydroxyurethane thermosets from novolac epoxide: Synthesis and its nanostructured blends with poly(trifluoroethylacrylate)-block-poly (N-vinylpyrrolidone) diblock copolymer

Lei Li et al.

Summary: A novel five-membered cyclic carbonate compound was synthesized and used as the precursor for preparing PHU thermosets with improved thermomechanical properties and hydrophobicity. The nanostructured PHU thermosets showed enhanced T-g and mechanical properties compared to plain PHU thermosets, with significantly improved surface hydrophobicity. Introduction of PTFEA-b-PVPy maintained excellent shape memory and reprocessability in the nanostructured PHU thermosets.

Bio-based Thermoplastic Polyhydroxyurethanes Synthesized from the Terpolymerization of a Dicarbonate and Two Diamines: Design, Rheology, and Application in Melt Blending

Georges R. Younes et al.

Summary: The terpolymerization of bio-based diglycerol dicarbonate (DGC) and Priamine 1074 resulted in amorphous thermoplastic polyhydroxyurethanes (TPHUs) with random or block copolymer-like segmented structures. The TPHUs exhibited nanophase separation mainly caused by DGC, while the introduction of crystallinity and chain ordering was observed with DAD. Blends of PDMS-based TPHUs with PLA were found to be partially miscible and showed potential applications as toughening agents and plasticizers for PLA.

An Ultra-Low-Temperature Elastomer with Excellent Mechanical Performance and Solvent Resistance

Qiang Ma et al.

Summary: The elastomer based on perfluoropolyether (PFPE) with dynamic urethane chemistry provides excellent elasticity, ductility, and chemical resistance at extreme low temperatures. It shows low-swelling characteristics in sealing applications and can be reprocessed for recycling and reuse. This elastomer may inspire global interest in designing elastic devices for extremely low temperatures.

Trends in non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) development

Alvaro Gomez-Lopez et al.

Summary: The transition towards safer and more sustainable production of polymers has led to a growing interest in non-isocyanate polyurethanes (NIPUs) as potential replacements for conventional materials. However, the challenges in directly replacing conventional polyurethanes (PUs) with NIPUs have been more difficult than initially anticipated. Despite significant academic research, the market size of NIPUs remains small, indicating a need for continued efforts to overcome limitations and promote industrial adoption.
