Repeated antigen testing among severe acute respiratory coronavirus virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-positive nursing home residents

Erin D. Moritz et al.

Summary: Repeated antigen testing on 12 nursing home residents with SARS-CoV-2 showed that the positivity can last up to 6 days after the initial positive test, with reliability in residents with evidence of early infection. Antigen positivity may persist beyond the infectious period.

Summary: In a nursing home outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, serology testing showed that serial RT-PCR testing and cohorting were effective in controlling the spread of the virus, with 24 out of 26 positive residents testing seropositive 46-76 days later, while none of the RT-PCR-negative residents were seropositive.

Willingness of Long-Term Care Staff to Receive a COVID-19 Vaccine: A Single State Survey

Kathleen T. Unroe et al.

Summary: A survey conducted by the Indiana Department of Health among nursing home and assisted living facility staff revealed that 45% of respondents were willing to receive the approved COVID-19 vaccine immediately, with concerns about side effects being the primary reason for hesitancy. Overall, willingness to receive the vaccine could be as high as 69%, but varied among different subgroups of nursing home staff. Strengthening education on the vaccine for staff may be critical in increasing uptake.

IgA dominates the early neutralizing antibody response to SARS-CoV-2

Delphine Sterlin et al.

Summary: The study found that humoral immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection are dominated by IgA antibodies, with specific IgA plasmablasts rapidly expanding shortly after symptom onset and peaking in the third week of the disease. Virus-specific antibody responses include IgG, IgM, and IgA, with IgA playing a greater role in virus neutralization compared to IgG.

SARS-CoV-2 antibody detection in skilled nursing facility residents

Summary: This study found that vulnerable older adults can produce antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, with antibodies most likely to be detected within 15-30 days of diagnosis. Additionally, a large proportion of residents with no confirmed infection also showed antibody response, highlighting the complexity of identifying infecte in real time.

Antibody Response to the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine in Subjects with Prior SARS-CoV-2 Infection

Federico Gobbi et al.

Summary: Individuals who previously contracted SARS-CoV-2 are expected to have a more rapid and sustained immune response to COVID-19 vaccines, with markedly higher titers of neutralizing antibodies compared to natural infection. A single dose of the vaccine may be sufficient to induce an effective response in previously infected individuals.

Association of SARS-CoV-2 Seropositive Antibody Test With Risk of Future Infection

Raymond A. Harvey et al.

Summary: Understanding the impact of serum antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 on infection susceptibility is crucial for identifying at-risk populations and vaccine deployment. Results of the study suggest that individuals with positive antibody test results initially had a higher likelihood of positive NAAT results, but this likelihood decreased significantly over time, indicating that seropositivity may be associated with protection from infection, though the duration of this protection remains uncertain and may decrease over time.

Summary: Our study at Karolinska University Hospital investigated the timeframe and potential risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission from hospitalized COVID-19 patients in relation to antibody response. The results suggest that the presence of SARS-CoV-2 specific antibodies in serum may indicate a lower risk of shedding infectious SARS-CoV-2 by hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

IgG Seroconversion and Pathophysiology in Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection

Summary: The study showed that in SARS-CoV-2 infection, 2.0%-8.5% of individuals did not seroconvert 3-6 weeks after infection. Those who did seroconvert were typically older, more likely to have concurrent conditions, and had higher levels of inflammatory markers. Non-White individuals had higher antibody concentrations compared to White individuals, and these concentrations remained stable during follow-up.
