Using a theory-informed approach to explore patient and staff perspectives on factors that influence clinical trial recruitment for patients with cirrhosis and small oesophageal varices

Clair Le Boutillier et al.

Summary: This study explores the factors influencing the recruitment of participants in pharmacological randomised controlled trials (RCTs) for patients with cirrhosis and small oesophageal varices. The findings reveal the influences on recruitment from both patient and staff perspectives, and provide opportunities for tailored interventions to improve trial recruitment in this context. The study utilizes a theory-informed approach and the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) as a theoretical lens to understand the influences on behavior.
