Psychological and Social Impact of HIV on Women Living with HIV and Their Families in Low- and Middle-Income Asian Countries: A Systematic Search and Critical Review

Summary: This review examines the psychological and social impacts of HIV infection on women living with HIV (WLHIV) and their families in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) in Asia. The findings indicate that HIV infection has negative psychological consequences, such as stress, fear, worry, anxiety, and depression, on WLHIV, as well as social impacts including stigma, discrimination, and family separation. Targeted interventions are needed to address the psychological challenges, stigma, and discrimination faced by WLHIV and their families, and these interventions should also incorporate education and sustainable support structures.

Mental Health Challenges and the Associated Factors in Women Living with HIV Who Have Children Living with HIV in Indonesia: A Qualitative Study

Summary: This qualitative study explores mental health challenges and associated factors faced by mothers living with HIV who have children living with HIV (CLHIV) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The findings reveal that these mothers experience stress, depression, anxiety, fear, sadness, and guilt due to their own and their child's HIV diagnosis. Lack of knowledge about HIV, fear of death, shame, difficulty in seeking support, and concerns about their children's health and social impacts contribute to their poor mental health. The study highlights the need for intervention programs that support these mothers and their CLHIV.

Factors associated with resilience among Black women living with HIV and histories of trauma

Sannisha K. Dale et al.

Summary: Black women living with HIV in the United States face individual and structural challenges, with resilience playing an important role in their well-being. Higher resilience was associated with greater self-efficacy, self-esteem, post-traumatic growth, and lower levels of trauma symptoms and depression among this group. The findings suggest potential targets for interventions to support Black women living with HIV.
