Estimating dynamic treatment effects in event studies with heterogeneous treatment effects

Liyang Sun et al.

Summary: In settings with variation in treatment timing across units, coefficient on a given lead or lag can be contaminated by effects from other periods in two-way fixed effects regressions, and apparent pretrends can arise solely from treatment effects heterogeneity. An alternative estimator free of contamination is proposed, and the relative shortcomings of two-way fixed effects regressions with leads and lags are illustrated through an empirical application.

Effects of Four-Day School Weeks on School Finance and Achievement: Evidence From Oklahoma

Emily Morton

Summary: The 4-day school week has become widespread in the United States, but its impact on school district finance and academic achievement remains uncertain. Research findings suggest that the 4-day week reduces districts' federal revenues and noninstructional expenditures, specifically in operations, transportation, and food services, by approximately 2.03% of the average 4-day district's budget. However, there is no detectable effect on academic achievement.

Validation Methods for Aggregate-Level Test Scale Linking: A Case Study Mapping School District Test Score Distributions to a Common Scale

Sean F. Reardon et al.

Summary: This study introduces validation methods for aggregate linkages, using the example of linking U.S. school district average test scores across states. The results show that precision-adjusted random effects models can estimate linking error, distinguish it from sampling variability, and illustrate its impact in aggregates with smaller sample sizes. The study also demonstrates that by obtaining scores for some target units on a common test, aggregate linkages can be validated directly and indirectly under certain conditions.
