Effect of Plasma-Activated Water Generated Using Plasma Jet on Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. var. cerasiforme) Seedling Growth

Norrapon Vichiansan et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility of using plasma technology to promote tomato seed growth. Plasma-activated water containing NO3-, NO2-, and H2O2 ions was used to treat tomato seeds, resulting in a significant increase in yield. The optimal system settings were determined to be 20 W of power, 10 min of discharge duration, and 4 l/min of gas flow rate.

Air to H2-N2 Pulse Plasma Jet for In-Vitro Plant Tissue Culture Process: Source Characteristics

Kunpisit Kosumsupamala et al.

Summary: Plasma agriculture is a promising solution for sustainable and safe agri-food production, including applications such as germination induction, plant-growth stimulation, post-harvest sterilization, and management. This study reports the diffusion pattern of plasma active radicals in a semi-solid model and their effects on bacterial killing and plant tissue culture. The H-2 + N-2-treated medium showed potential antimicrobial effects, and it can be widely used for economically important plant tissue cultures.

Enhancement Propagation of Protocorms in Orchid (Cymbidium tracyanum L. Castle) by Cold Atmospheric Pressure Air Plasma Jet

Sorapong Pavasupree et al.

Summary: The study investigated the propagation of orchids using an air cold atmospheric pressure plasma jet, showing significant increase in plant size, bud number, and fresh/dry weight, as well as releasing bud dormancy. The effects were attributed to the attack on the cell wall of orchid protocorms by constituent particles of the cold plasma, improving elongation and bud dormancy release.

Air Supply Mode Effects on Ozone Production of Surface Dielectric Barrier Discharge in a Cylindrical Configuration

Stanislav Pekarek et al.

Summary: The study examined the impact of air supply modes on ozone production in surface dielectric barrier discharge in a cylindrical configuration. Tangential air supply created vortex flow, affecting ozone concentration and stabilization time in the discharge. Additionally, higher discharge power resulted in increased ozone production with tangential air supply compared to axial air supply.

The Feasibility of Utilizing Cultured Cordyceps militaris Residues in Cosmetics: Biological Activity Assessment of Their Crude Extracts

Punyawatt Pintathong et al.

Summary: Solid-based residues (SBRs) from Cordyceps militaris cultivation were used to prepare crude extracts for potential use in cosmetics, with total bioactive contents and biological capacities significantly influenced by types of SBRs and extraction solvents. The highest antioxidant activity was found in SBR-B extracted with hot water, while SBR-Rb extracted with 50% (v/v) ethanol showed excellent tyrosinase inhibitory activity. Correlations between bioactive contents and biological activities were strong, demonstrating the potential roles of SBR extracts as natural UV absorbers and boosters. Fibroblast cell lines showed safe use and anti-aging properties when tested with the extracts. LC-MS/MS analysis identified various compounds, highlighting the potential of SBRs as multifunctional ingredients in cosmetics and cosmeceuticals.

Cold plasma for insect pest control: Tribolium castaneum mortality and defense mechanisms in response to treatment

Dana Ziuzina et al.

Summary: The insecticidal properties and mechanisms of high-voltage air-based atmospheric cold plasma using a contained dielectric barrier discharge reactor were investigated against Tribolium castaneum. The treatment was effective in achieving high mortality rates for preadult stages within seconds, although longer exposure was needed for adult insects. Cold plasma treatment not only reduced respiration rate and weight of insects, but also impacted oxidative stress markers in adult populations, offering a potential route to integrated pest management while maintaining grain quality retention.
