Mechanosensation triggers enhanced heavy metal ion uptake by non-glandular trichomes

Summary: The trichomes of Arabidopsis thaliana and Chinese cabbage accumulate Cd2+ complexes more rapidly and to a higher concentration when mechanically stimulated, suggesting a mechanobiological pathway for enhancing heavy metal detoxification. This acceleration in Cd2+ storage requires signaling through trichomes, as seen in comparisons with gl1-1 mutants.

AaSPL9 affects glandular trichomes initiation by positively regulating expression of AaHD1 in Artemisia annua L.

Summary: In this study, AaSPL9 was identified as a positive regulator of glandular trichome initiation in Artemisia annua. Overexpression of AaSPL9 increased the density of glandular trichomes and the content of artemisinin. The study also revealed the molecular mechanism by which AaSPL9 promotes glandular trichome initiation by activating the expression of AaHD1.
