Increase in alpha-linolenic acid content by simultaneous expression of fatty acid metabolism genes in Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)

Muthulakshmi Chellamuthu et al.

Summary: Sesame is an important source of edible oil in India and has nutritional and medicinal value. Co-expression of sesame DGAT1, PDAT1, and omega 3 FAD genes can increase lipid accumulation with high omega-3 fatty acid content. The study provides insights into the genomic organization and characteristics of these genes and their potential applications in plant systems.

Expression of a Bacterial Trehalose-6-phosphate Synthase otsA Increases Oil Accumulation in Plant Seeds and Vegetative Tissues

Zhiyang Zhai et al.

Summary: Through heterologous expression of E. coli T6P synthase and phosphatase in transgenic Arabidopsis, fatty acid synthesis can be regulated to increase lipid content in seeds and vegetative tissues. Moreover, otsA expression significantly elevates T6P levels, leading to increased fatty acid synthesis rate and TAG accumulation.

Genome-Wide Analysis of nsLTP Gene Family and Identification of SiLTPs Contributing to High Oil Accumulation in Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)

Shengnan Song et al.

Summary: This study identified and characterized 52 SiLTPs in sesame, and revealed their interactions with transcription factors. Through transcriptome analysis and WGCNA, SiLTPI.23 and SiLTPI.28 were identified as candidate genes for high oil content in sesame seeds, with their functions validated through overexpression in Arabidopsis thaliana. These findings expand our understanding of nsLTPs in sesame and provide resources for genetic improvement of oil content in sesame seeds.
