Genome-Wide Comparative Analysis of the R2R3-MYB Gene Family in Five Solanaceae Species and Identification of Members Regulating Carotenoid Biosynthesis in Wolfberry

Yue Yin et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the R2R3-MYB gene family in wolfberry and other Solanaceae species. A total of 610 R2R3-MYB genes were identified, with 137 in wolfberry. Phylogenetic analysis, conserved gene structures, and motif composition classified the LbaR2R3-MYB genes into 31 subgroups. Only five groups of Solanaceae R2R3-MYB genes showed functional divergence during evolution. Dispersed and whole duplication events played a critical role in expanding the R2R3-MYB gene family. RNA-seq analysis revealed differential gene expression (DEGs) and carotenoid biosynthesis genes (CBGs) during fruit development stages. The highly expressed LbaR2R3-MYB genes were co-expressed with CBGs. qRT-PCR verified two candidate genes regulating carotenoid biosynthesis in wolfberry.

Identification of gingerenone A as a novel senolytic compound

Ruin Moaddel et al.

Summary: Senescent cells, which accumulate with aging, have been shown to contribute to age-associated diseases and organ dysfunction. In this study, ginger extract was found to selectively eliminate senescent cells without affecting normal cells. The major components of ginger extract, gingerenone A and 6-shogaol, showed promising senolytic properties and also suppressed the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). These findings suggest that gingerenone A may have therapeutic benefit in diseases characterized by senescent cell accumulation.

MYB Transcription Factors and Its Regulation in Secondary Cell Wall Formation and Lignin Biosynthesis during Xylem Development

Ruixue Xiao et al.

Summary: The secondary wall of wood is composed of cellulose, xylan, lignin, and small amounts of proteins and enzymes, with lignin molecules interacting with other components to enhance the strength and hydrophobicity of plant cells. MYB transcription factors regulate the biosynthesis of secondary cell walls by modulating lignin, cellulose, and xylan synthesis, with MYB46 and MYB83 playing important roles in this process. Other MYB transcription factors, along with noncoding RNAs, hormones, and other factors, also contribute to the regulation of secondary wall biosynthesis.
