RNA Sequencing of Whole Blood Defines the Signature of High Intensity Exercise at Altitude in Elite Speed Skaters

Andrey S. Glotov et al.

Summary: This study investigates the physiological changes and potential biomarkers of high altitude adaptation in endurance athletes. The researchers used transcriptional profiling of whole blood to measure gene expression changes associated with exercise. They identified specific genes regulated at high altitudes and found that platelet and erythrocyte counts uniquely respond to altitude exercise, while changes in neutrophils represent a more generic marker of intense exercise.

The Role of Innate and Adaptive Immune Cells in Skeletal Muscle Regeneration

Natalia Ziemkiewicz et al.

Summary: The inflammatory response plays a critical role in skeletal muscle regeneration, with various immune cells and biomolecules involved in the process of muscle repair. Research has focused on utilizing immune cells and biomolecules to promote muscle regeneration, along with the development of cell and drug-based immunomodulatory strategies.

Predicting tissue-specific gene expression from whole blood transcriptome

Mahashweta Basu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that an individual's whole blood transcriptome can predict tissue-specific expression levels for around 60% of genes across various tissues, with particularly high accuracy in skeletal muscle. Predictions based on blood transcriptome are almost as effective as actual tissue expression in identifying disease states for six different complex disorders, surpassing the traditional blood transcriptome approach. The development of TEEBoT provides a valuable tool for further research in other medical conditions.

Inflammation and metabolism gene sets in subcutaneous abdominal adipose tissue are altered 1 hour after exercise in adults with obesity

A. C. Ludzki et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of a single session of high-intensity interval exercise versus moderate-intensity continuous exercise on transcriptional changes in subcutaneous abdominal adipose tissue collected from adults with obesity. The novel findings indicate exercise upregulated inflammation-related gene sets and downregulated metabolism-related gene sets in both high-intensity and moderate-intensity exercise sessions, suggesting exercise can impact inflammation and metabolism in adipose tissue transcriptome 1 hour after exercise.
