Complex interferometry of magnetized plasma: Accuracy and limitations

Summary: This study focuses on characterizing expanding laser plasmas produced by high energy laser radiation. The development of complex interferometry on large facilities allows for reconstruction of plasma electron density and magnetic field distributions from a single data object. A regularization procedure is proposed to decrease error near the plasma symmetry axis in quasi-axisymmetric plasmas.

On the representation of dense plasma focus as a circuit element

Summary: The dense plasma focus is a plasma discharge powered by a capacitor bank, with diagnostics involving assumptions and interpretation of current derivative waveforms. The sharp dip in current and spike in voltage have been attributed to rapid changes in plasma inductance or anomalous plasma impedance. However, a first principles approach reveals fundamental problems with traditional representations. Dynamo effects and three-dimensional magnetic fields are shown to play a key role in resolving conceptual difficulties observed in the plasma focus.
