Analytical Solution to Time-Periodic Electro-Osmotic Flow of Generalized Maxwell Fluids in Parallel Plate Microchannel With Slip-Dependent Zeta Potential

Ashim Jyoti Nath et al.

Summary: This technical brief reports on the flow characteristics of a time-periodic electrokinetically mediated flow of a generalized Maxwell fluid through a straight planar microchannel, taking into account the interfacial slip effect on surface potential. Critical values of Reynolds number are obtained at different relaxation times, leading to flow reversal initialization in the core region of the microchannel. Thinner electrical double layer results in higher velocity amplitude, particularly for apparent zeta potential. Additionally, dissimilar zeta potentials result in an asymmetrical amplitude of velocity near and away from the walls of the microchannel at higher Reynolds numbers. The volumetric flow rate oscillates with the relaxation time for both apparent and true zeta potential.

Analytical study of two-layered mixed electro-osmotic and pressure-driven flow and heat transfer in a microchannel with hydrodynamic slippage and asymmetric wall heating

Debanjan Banerjee et al.

Summary: The study investigates the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of two immiscible fluids through a microchannel, considering wall slip and slip-dependent zeta potential effects. Results show that considering slip effects leads to higher flow velocity and different heat transfer characteristics for the two layers.

Stimuli-responsive polyelectrolyte brushes for regulating streaming current magnetic field and energy conversion efficiency in soft nanopores

Morteza Sadeghi et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the electrokinetic energy conversion, electroviscous effect, and induced internal and external magnetic fields in a smart polyelectrolyte grafted soft nanopore with pH responsiveness. The researchers used an efficient molecular theory approach to analyze the total free energy of the system, considering the conformational entropy, electrostatic interactions, and chemical equilibrium reactions. The model predictions were found to be in agreement with analytical solutions, and the effects of various environmental and polymer brush parameters were discussed. The study concludes that the electrokinetic energy conversion efficiency is optimal at moderate pH values and low salt concentrations, and it is influenced by both the environmental and polymer brush properties. The study also highlights the potential of using magnetic field readouts for measuring streaming currents and controlling internal and external magnetic fields.

Analysis of thermal transport and entropy generation characteristics for electroosmotic flow through a hydrophobic microchannel considering viscoelectric effect

Souvik Pabi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermo-fluidic and entropy generation characteristics for electroosmotic flow through a hydrophobic microchannel with consideration of the viscoelectric effect. Results show that the viscoelectric effect decreases flow velocity, and the decrease in flow rate percentage is larger in the slip case.

Analytical solution to heat transfer for mixed electroosmotic and pressure-driven flow through a microchannel with slip-dependent zeta potential

Debanjan Banerjee et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that considering the surface potential dependent on interfacial slip has a significant impact on thermal transport phenomenon in electrokinetic flows, allowing for the decoupling of interfacial slip and zeta potential. This consideration results in more accurate velocity and temperature profiles as well as Nusselt numbers.

Electrokinetic flow of fluids with pressure-dependent viscosity in a nanotube

Xingyu Chen et al.

Summary: The electrokinetic flow of fluids with pressure-dependent viscosity is investigated through a nanotube using perturbation method to obtain axial and radial velocities, pressure, streaming potential, and electrokinetic energy conversion efficiency. The results suggest that pressure-dependent viscosity can enhance streaming potential magnitude, but larger pressure-viscosity coefficient leads to lower energy conversion efficiency. The asymptotic analytical solutions can be used to check numerical schemes for flows in complex situations.

Electroosmotic flow of viscoelastic fluid through a microchannel with slip-dependent zeta potential

Kasavajhula Naga Vasista et al.

Summary: This study investigates electroosmotic flow of viscoelastic fluids through a hydrophobic microchannel with consideration of interfacial slip and zeta potential. Analytical solutions are obtained for the electric double layer potential distribution, flow velocity, flow rate, stresses, and viscosity. It is found that neglecting the effect of interfacial slip on zeta potential leads to underestimation of flow rate, with this underestimation increasing with Deborah number, decreasing EDL thickness, and increasing slip coefficient. Additionally, the rheological behavior influences the flow rate based on the range of slip coefficients and changes in EDL thickness.
