Non-Boussinesq subgrid-scale model with dynamic tensorial coefficients

Rahul Agrawal et al.

Summary: A major drawback of Boussinesq-type subgrid-scale stress models in large-eddy simulations is the assumption of alignment between large-scale strain rates and filtered subgrid-stresses. A new non-Boussinesq subgrid-scale model with dynamically computed coefficients has been proposed to address this issue and provide sufficient dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy.

Local dynamic gradient Smagorinsky model for large-eddy simulation

Wybe Rozema et al.

Summary: This paper presents a local dynamic model for large-eddy simulation (LES) to address the singularity issue of the widely used dynamic Smagorinsky model (DSM). By replacing the resolved rate-of-strain tensors with the resolved velocity gradient tensor, the model improves the local applicability. Simulation results demonstrate that the model provides better stability and lower computational complexity compared to the local DSM.

Subgrid-scale helicity equation model for large-eddy simulation of turbulent flows

Han Qi et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new one-equation eddy-viscosity model based on SGS helicity for LES of turbulent flows. The model is tested and validated in homogeneous and isotropic helical turbulence simulations, showing improved accuracy in predicting energy and helicity spectra. The model also accurately predicts mean velocity, turbulent stress, and viscous shear stress in channel flow LES, providing more flow structures compared to traditional SGS models.

Direct numerical simulation of a supersonic turbulent boundary layer over a compression-decompression corner

Junyi Duan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the interaction between a shock wave and supersonic turbulent boundary layer in a compression-decompression corner, finding that classic flow characteristics are reproduced in the higher case, while the lower case shows reduced separation and suppressed instability. Flow patterns near the reattachment line reveal Gortler vortices, and a negative response mechanism is observed between fluctuating wall pressures upstream and downstream of the decompression corner.
