Transient mixed-lubrication analysis of low-viscosity lubricated bearings under impact load with consideration of turbulence

Fangrui Lv et al.

Summary: This study proposes a transient mixed-lubrication model considering turbulence to investigate the dynamic characteristics of mixed-lubricated bearings. The effects of turbulence, surface roughness, and impact load direction on transient lubrication are analyzed based on a derived transient Reynolds equation and the journal's dynamic equation.

Analysis of mixed lubrication performance of water-lubricated rubber tilting pad journal bearing

Guangwu Zhou et al.

Summary: The present study improves the conventional water-lubricated rubber bearing (WLRB) by using a tilting-pad structure and develops a mixed elastohydrodynamic (Mixed-EHD) model for water-lubricated rubber tilting-pad journal bearing (WLRTPJB). The study investigates the influence of structural and operating parameters on the tribological properties and pad swing characteristics. The results show that the WLRTPJB has a lower contact load, especially under heavy load conditions, and provide optimal pivot offset and preload factor to minimize contact pressure. Moreover, the equilibrium tilting-pad angle is sensitive to changes in design and operating parameters. This study has certain guiding significance for the design optimization of WLRB.

Effects of wear and shaft-shape error defects on the tribo-dynamic response of water-lubricated bearings under propeller disturbance

Jianlin Cai et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of wear and shaft-shape error defects on the tribo-dynamic responses of water-lubricated bearings under nonlinear propeller disturbance. The results show that the nonlinear disturbance significantly affects the dynamic behavior of the bearings, and reasonable wear parameters can improve the lubrication performance.

Coupling analysis of turbulent and mixed lubrication of water-lubricated rubber bearings

Jinsheng Qiao et al.

Summary: This study establishes a turbulent mixed lubrication model of water lubricated rubber bearings (WLRBs), revealing the effect mechanism of turbulence in these bearings. The rationality of the model is verified through experiments, and optimal axial misalignment and radius clearance that can maximize the turbulent force are determined.

Thermohydrodynamic investigation for supercritical carbon dioxide high speed tilting pad bearings considering turbulence and real gas effect

Chunxiao Bi et al.

Summary: A global heat balance method for supercritical carbon dioxide (S-CO2) high speed tilting pad bearings was developed, taking into consideration the real gas effect, variable thermodynamic properties, and turbulence effect. The influence of the thermal effect on the static and dynamic characteristics of bearings is caused by changes in density, specific heat, and thermal expansion coefficient rather than viscosity, which is different from oil bearings. The study found that the influence of thermohydrodynamic lubrication on static characteristics of S-CO2 tilting pad bearings is more significant than on dynamic coefficients.

Effect of different turbulent lubrication models on the lubrication characteristics of water-lubricated rubber bearings at a high Reynolds number

Yuanying Du et al.

Summary: By using four different turbulent lubrication mathematical models, the lubrication characteristics of water-lubricated rubber bearings under high-Reynolds-number operating conditions were studied. The turbulent lubrication models showed higher bearing capacity and film pressure compared to laminar lubrication models, and the Aokihiro-Harada Masahiro turbulent lubrication theory was found to be more accurate. Additionally, non-linear and approximately linear increases in bearing capacity and maximum film pressure were observed with increasing eccentricity and rotational speed, while non-linear decreases and approximately linear increases were observed with increasing clearance ratio.

A tribo-dynamic model of coupled journal-thrust water-lubricated bearings under propeller disturbance

Guo Xiang et al.

Summary: The study aims to develop a numerical model for investigating coupled water-lubricated bearings under propeller disturbance, with a validating experiment showing that disturbing moment increases the transient contact force of the bearings and coupling hydrodynamic pressure significantly affects their tribo-dynamic behaviors. Parametric studies reveal optimal radial clearance and tilting angles for minimizing contact force, while numerical results highlight the importance of propeller rotor mass on the bearings' tribo-dynamic responses.
