Information content of the differences in the charge radii of mirror nuclei

Paul-Gerhard Reinhard et al.

Summary: Differences in charge radii of mirror nuclei are suggested to contain information on the slope of the symmetry energy. However, statistical correlation analysis shows that the difference in charge radii, Delta R-ch(mir), is an inferior indicator compared to other observables such as neutron skin or electric dipole polarizability. The presence of pairing correlations and low-lying proton continuum affects Delta R-ch(mir). Therefore, the precise data on mirror charge radii cannot provide a stringent constraint on the slope of the symmetry energy L.

The mean square radius of the neutron distribution and the skin thickness derived from electron scattering

Haruki Kurasawa et al.

Summary: The second-order and fourth-order moments of nuclear charge density depend on the mean square radius of proton and neutron distributions respectively. The strong correlation between neutron distribution and nuclear charge density in nuclear models allows for the estimation of proton and neutron values using least-squares method. Relativistic and non-relativistic models yield different results for neutron values and skin thickness due to the different lines they provide.

Astrophysical Constraints on the Symmetry Energy and the Neutron Skin of 208Pb with Minimal Modeling Assumptions

Reed Essick et al.

Summary: The symmetry energy and its density dependence play crucial roles in nuclear and astrophysics, influencing properties ranging from the neutron-skin thickness of nuclei to the radius of neutron stars. Observations of neutron stars have allowed for constraints on the symmetry energy S-0, slope parameter L, and the neutron skin thickness of Pb-208, indicating a preference for smaller values of neutron skin and L.

Information Content of the Parity-Violating Asymmetry in 208P

Paul-Gerhard Reinhard et al.

Summary: The study focused on the parity-violating asymmetry A(PV) in Pb-208 using modern relativistic and nonrelativistic energy density functionals. By optimizing new functionals, predictions were made for the neutron skin thickness and symmetry-energy slope in Pb-208. The results were consistent with astrophysical data and differed from those obtained using a specific set of relativistic functionals.

Accurate Determination of the Neutron Skin Thickness of 208Pb through Parity-Violation in Electron Scattering

D. Adhikari et al.

Summary: The study reports a precise measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry A(pv) in elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from Pb-208, extracting key parameters such as neutron skin thickness and interior baryon density. This measurement accurately constrains the density dependence of the symmetry energy of nuclear matter near saturation density, with implications for the size and composition of neutron stars.

Implications of PREX-2 on the Equation of State of Neutron-Rich Matter

Brendan T. Reed et al.

Summary: Laboratory experiments sensitive to the equation of state of neutron rich matter in the vicinity of nuclear saturation density provide crucial data connecting terrestrial experiments to astronomical observations. The neutron skin thickness of Pb-208 further constrains the density dependence of the symmetry energy. The impact of a stiff symmetry energy on critical neutron-star observables is studied.

Neutron stars and the nuclear equation of state

G. F. Burgio et al.

Summary: The paper reviews the current status and recent progress of microscopic many-body approaches and phenomenological models used in constructing the equation of state of neutron stars. Theoretical predictions of different equation-of-state models are compared with data from terrestrial laboratory experiments and recent astrophysical observations. The importance of nuclear strong interaction and equation of state for the cooling properties of neutron stars is also analyzed.

Determine the neutron skin type by relativistic isobaric collisions

Hao-jie Xu et al.

Summary: The effects of neutron skin on the multiplicity and eccentricity in relativistic Ru-96+Ru-96 and Zr-96+Zr-96 collisions at 200 GeV are investigated, showing that the Ru+Ru/Zr+Zr ratios are sensitive to the neutron skin type. Current DFT calculations support halo-type neutron skin and can be verified by experimental data. The halo-type density can be used as a good substitute for DFT density to probe nuclear deformities efficiently.
