Development of a low-background neutron detector array

Yu-Tian Li et al.

Summary: A low-background neutron detector array was developed to measure the cross section of the C-13(alpha,n)O-16 reaction, which is the neutron source for the s-process in AGB stars, in the Gamow window at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory. The detector array achieved a low background of 4.5(2)/h due to its deep underground location and borated polyethylene shield. The neutron detection efficiency of the array was determined using the V-51(p, n)Cr-51 reaction.

Direct Measurement of the 13C(α,n)16O Cross Section into the s-Process Gamow Peak

G. F. Ciani et al.

Summary: The study of the C-13(alpha,n)O-16 reaction in the astrophysical s process, particularly in the energy window of the Gamow peak, is crucial but challenging due to the high uncertainties in cross section measurements. A new deep-underground measurement has significantly reduced uncertainties and provided data directly relevant to the s-process, impacting the understanding of nucleosynthesis in stellar models.

Direct Measurement of the Astrophysical 19F(p,αγ)16O Reaction in the Deepest Operational Underground Laboratory

L. Y. Zhang et al.

Summary: Fluorine is considered one of the most interesting elements in nuclear astrophysics, and the direct measurements of the F-19(p, alpha gamma)O-16 reaction channel have provided new insights into the reaction rate at relevant astrophysical energies. The experiment conducted at the Jinping Underground Nuclear Astrophysics facility revealed deviations from previous theoretical predictions in low-energy S factors and significantly reduced uncertainties in the data. This study highlights the importance of experimental data in refining our understanding of nuclear astrophysical processes.
