State-dependent inhibition of GABA receptor channels by the ectoparasiticide fluralaner

Miku Kono et al.

Summary: This study found that fluralaner inhibits GABA receptors in the activated state by binding to the putative binding site in the transmembrane subunit interface. The GABA response was not affected in the resting state, but once inhibited, it could not be restored by repeated applications of GABA. These findings suggest that fluralaner tightly binds to the activated conformation of GABA receptors in a stepwise fashion.

Toxicity of fluralaner against vegetable pests and its sublethal impact on a biocontrol predatory ladybeetle

Zhuoqi Liu et al.

Summary: Fluralaner, a systemic pesticide, showed effective control against three vegetable pests but was less effective against the predatory ladybeetle Propylaea japonica. It did not significantly impact the life history traits of P. japonica at sublethal concentrations, suggesting it may be a potential biological control agent that is friendly to this beneficial insect.

Untangling a Gordian knot: the role of a GluCl3 I321T mutation in abamectin resistance in Tetranychus urticae

Wenxin Xue et al.

Summary: The study validated the functional role of the GluCl3 I321T mutation in abamectin resistance, with results showing a complex phenotypic strength. Using CRISPR-Cas9 mediated gene editing, it was demonstrated that the I321T mutation reduced the susceptibility of T. urticae to abamectin.

Effect of broflanilide on the phytophagous mite Tetranychus urticae and the predatory mite Typhlodromips swirskii

Ning Shen et al.

Summary: The study showed that Broflanilide has high acaricidal activity against TSSM, significantly inhibiting the fecundity of adult female mites. In the sublethal effect study, it was found that treatment with Broflanilide decreased the number of eggs and longevity in adult females, while prolonging the egg period and deutonymph duration.

Ion channels and G protein-coupled receptors as targets for invertebrate pest control: from past challenges to practical insecticides

Yoshihisa Ozoe

Summary: Research on compounds inhibiting GABARs led to the development of insecticides, with third-generation insecticides targeting insect GABARs as allosteric modulator antagonists. G protein-coupled receptors were identified as promising targets for pest control, particularly beta-adrenergic-like octopamine receptors sensitive to certain acaricides/insecticides. Multiple potential targets, including ion channels and GPCRs, exist for invertebrate pest control.
