Modeling and optimization of an unbalanced delay interferometer based OPLL system

Ling Zhang et al.

Summary: A versatile analytical model is established for the overall analysis and optimization of phase noise performance in the delay interferometer based optical phase-locked loop (OPLL). The model considers different lasers with arbitrary frequency noise properties and various practical noise sources, enabling comprehensive investigation and optimization for closed-loop noise performance. The proposed model demonstrates precision, effectiveness, and guiding significance for practical applications.

Thermal control of a Kerr microresonator soliton comb via an optical sideband

Kenji Nishimoto et al.

Summary: This paper reports on the thermal control of a dissipative Kerr microresonator soliton comb using an optical sideband generated from an electro-optic modulator. Similar to previous reports using an independent auxiliary laser, our sideband-based auxiliary light enables stable soliton comb generation and reduces phase noise. Furthermore, due to the high frequency/phase correlation between the pump and sideband auxiliary light, the detuning between the pump and resonance frequency remains fixed, allowing for a larger effective soliton existence range and scanning of the soliton comb without microheaters.

Phase noise of electro-optic dual frequency combs

Callum Deakin et al.

Summary: Dual frequency combs play a key role in spectroscopy and signal processing, with the relative phase noise determining performance. The scaling of phase noise in dual frequency comb systems varies with offset frequency, with high offset frequencies showing incoherent phase noise and low offset frequencies displaying slower scaling due to coherence.

Optically synchronized fibre links using spectrally pure chip-scale lasers

Grant M. Brodnik et al.

Summary: Precision optical-frequency and phase synchronization over fibre is crucial for various applications, and chip-scale stabilized lasers have demonstrated ultralow residual phase error variance. This performance is achieved through integrated Brillouin lasers, compact reference cavities, and a novel low-bandwidth optical-frequency-stabilized phase-locked loop. The results pave the way for low-power, precision applications in distributed atomic clocks, quantum links, database synchronization, and digital-signal-processor-free coherent fibre interconnects.
