Switchable generation of azimuthally- and radially-polarized terahertz beams from a spintronic terahertz emitter

Hiroaki Niwa et al.

Summary: This study introduces a method of generating two fundamental terahertz cylindrical vector beams (THz-CVBs) using a spintronic THz emitter, demonstrating the production of azimuthally- and radially-polarized THz pulses. By employing mode conversion with a triangular Si prism, both experimental and numerical results confirm the generation of these THz vector beams, opening up possibilities for sophisticated polarization control in the terahertz regime.

Precise and accurate control of the ellipticity of THz radiation using a photoconductive pixel array

C. D. W. Mosley et al.

Summary: Full control of the ellipticity of broadband pulses of THz radiation was demonstrated using a four-pixel photoconductive emitter with an integrated achromatic waveplate, achieving excellent polarization purity and accuracy. A robust scheme was utilized to correct polarization changes caused by imperfect optical elements, resulting in Stokes parameters exceeding 97% for linear and circular polarization. Additionally, a figure of merit, the standard error after one second of measurement, was introduced to assess the speed and precision of THz polarization measurements, with the standard error for the polarization angle found to be 0.047°.
