Lighting Up Si Nanoparticle Arrays by Exploiting the Bound States in the Continuum Formed in a Si/Au Hybrid Nanostructure

Lidan Zhou et al.

Summary: The study proposes a Si/Au hybrid nanostructure that achieves an accidental bound state in the continuum (BIC) in the nanostructure. Efficient nonlinear optical emission is observed when the nanostructure is excited, which is important for realizing all-optical computation.

Tuning magnetic Mie-exciton interaction from the intermediate to strong coupling regime in a WSe2 monolayer coupled with dielectric-metal nanoresonators

Shiyu Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, a low-loss dielectric nanoparticle-on-mirror (NPoM) system is proposed for flexible control of the coherent interaction between magnetic Mie resonances and the excitonic mode in a monolayer of WSe2. The interaction strength can be tuned by changing the thickness of the dielectric spacer and the particle size, and the incoherent damping process is suppressed through highly directional emission at the Mie resonance.

Dynamic Hybrid Metasurfaces

Sajjad Abdollahramezani et al.

Summary: This study introduces a reconfigurable hybrid metasurface platform by incorporating the phase-change material Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST) into metal-dielectric meta-atoms for active and nonvolatile tuning of properties of light. The reduced-dimension meta-atom can selectively control the hybrid plasmonic-photonic resonances of the metasurface via the dynamic change of optical constants of GST, demonstrating promising applications in high-contrast optical switching and efficient beam deflection. Findings suggest dynamic hybrid metasurfaces as compelling candidates for next-generation reprogrammable meta-optics.

Boosting Strong Coupling in a Hybrid WSe2 Monolayer-Anapole-Plasmon System

Khalil As'ham et al.

Summary: Strong coupling between an anapole mode in a slotted silicon nanodisk and an exciton in a WSe2 monolayer has been observed, leading to the creation of anapole-exciton polaritons. Additionally, strong anapole-plasmon and anapole-plasmon-exciton coupling have been demonstrated in Si-Ag and Si-Ag-WSe2 heterostructures, respectively. The observed polaritonic hybrid states have a large Rabi splitting (159 meV) and high localized field enhancement (157 times increase) in the near field and at a normal incident angle, indicating a significant progress towards the development of exciton-polariton nanodevices.

Multipole lattice effects in high refractive index metasurfaces

Viktoriia E. Babicheva et al.

Summary: This Perspective outlines recent progress in the development of high refractive index nanostructures and metasurfaces, emphasizing the role of multipole lattice effects in controlling resonant properties. The use of photonic lattices in translational regimes between two and three dimensions allows for efficient light control at the nanoscale. Multipole lattice phenomena facilitate nanoparticle resonances, cross-multipole coupling, and light localization in planar photonic elements.

Anapole-Assisted Absorption Engineering in Arrays of Coupled Amorphous Gallium Phosphide Nanodisks

Ludwig Huettenhofer et al.

Summary: The study investigates the coupling mechanisms in arrays of amorphous GaP nanodisks supporting anapole excitations, revealing that absorption enhancement of up to 300% can be achieved by adjusting the array periodicities to overlap with the anapole excitation of a single particle. Analyzing coupling interactions in one- and two-dimensional arrays allows for discrimination between parallel and perpendicular interactions to the polarization axis, showing an enhancement of electric and toroidal dipoles under variation of the interparticle spacing. These findings provide insight into tailored light absorption in coupled anapole resonators and offer important design guidelines for energy conversion applications.

Lasing Action from Anapole Metasurfaces

Aditya Tripathi et al.

Summary: Active dielectric metasurfaces composed of split-nanodisk resonators fabricated in InGaAsP membranes with embedded quantum wells were studied. These split-nanodisk resonators can operate in the optical anapole regime, supporting strongly localized fields and high-Q resonances. Room-temperature lasing was demonstrated from the anapole lattices of engineered active metasurfaces with low threshold and high coherence.
