Effect of beam oscillation frequency on spattering in remote laser stitch welding of thin-gage zinc-coated steel with keyhole penetration

Zixuan Wan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of beam oscillation frequency on spatter behavior in remote laser welding of thin-gauge zinc-coated steel. The experimental study shows that using a zigzag beam oscillation can improve weld aesthetics and reduce spatter-induced mass loss. Numerical simulations reveal that a suitable oscillation frequency leads to stable keyhole formation and reduced spatter.

Effects of laser beam oscillation welding parameters on Al-Si coated 22MnB5 weld joint properties

Wei Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, the laser beam oscillation welding approach was used to weld the Al-Si coated 22MnB5 steel, and the process parameters were optimized to improve the joint strength. The experimental results showed that the laser power had the largest effect on the tensile strength of the welded joint.

Study of porosity suppression in oscillating laser-MIG hybrid welding of AA6082 aluminum alloy

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: The use of beam oscillation in oscillating laser-MIG hybrid welding of AA6082 aluminum alloy effectively suppresses porosity, especially at low arc current levels. Increasing the oscillating amplitude and frequency further reduces the percentage of porosity. The formation and suppression of porosity is influenced by the frequency of oscillation, with a threshold frequency for porosity-free welding achieved at different amplitudes.

Influence of scan paths on flow dynamics and weld formations during oscillating laser welding of 5A06 aluminum alloy

Liqun Li et al.

Summary: The cycloid scan path in laser welding of 5A06 aluminum alloys produces the largest molten pools with regular morphology and lowest temperature gradients, leading to reduction in porosity formation. Additionally, the shallow keyhole, low and highly homogeneous melt flow velocity, and complicated vortices contribute to this reduction.

Welding stability and fatigue performance of laser welded low alloy high strength steel with 20 mm thickness

Chunming Wang et al.

Summary: The study showed that high power laser welding and narrow gap hybrid laser-arc welding have their own characteristics in butt joint of low alloy high strength steel, and it is essential to control the laser power and the behavior of the molten metal at the tip of the wire to avoid instability and welding defects. The fatigue property of the laser weld was superior to that of the hybrid weld, which was attributed to the fine multidirectional grains within the laser weld and the precipitation of particle phases inside the hybrid weld.

Porosity suppressing and grain refining of narrow-gap rotating laser-MIG hybrid welding of 5A06 aluminum alloy

Xiaoyi Yang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that an appropriate rotating laser can effectively reduce porosity, improve joint quality, and enhance sidewall fusion in NG-RLMHW of 5A06 aluminum alloy. The stirring effect of the rotating laser results in smaller grain size and more uniform temperature gradient in the molten pool, promoting the morphology transformation in the weld metal.

Laser beam oscillation welding of aluminum alloy using the spatially modulated beam by diffractive optical element (DOE)

SeungGu Kang et al.

Summary: The study compared the characteristics of modulated beam welding (MBW) and Gaussian beam welding (GBW), finding that the modulated beam welding was more effective in forming a stable melt pool, reducing weld defects, and improving the asymmetric morphology of the weld. Additionally, the modulated beam welding resulted in a relatively uniform temperature distribution, leading to a reduction in the proportion of low and high angle grain boundaries and larger grains in the weld zone compared to the GBW.
