From rose petal to bone scaffolds: Using nature to fabricate osteon-like scaffolds for bone tissue engineering applications

Shima Mahtabian et al.

Summary: Rose petals were used to fabricate osteon-like scaffolds with lamellar structure for bone tissue engineering applications. The scaffolds showed good bioactivity and biocompatibility, with pore diameters ranging from 13-20 μm. Red rose petals were found to be a suitable template for designing scaffolds in bone tissue engineering.

High-rate laser processing with ultrashort laser pulses by combination of diffractive elements with synchronized galvo scanning

Markus Gafner et al.

Summary: The combination of diffractive optical elements or spatial light modulators with fully synchronized galvo scanners allows scaling up machining processes with ultra-short pulses to several hundred watts of average power, while minimizing thermal impact. This technology can be applied in high-rate applications such as multi-pulse drilling on the fly and material removal with special intensity distributions.
