Rayleigh scattering characterization of a low-loss MgO-based nanoparticle-doped optical fiber for distributed sensing

Daniele Tosi et al.

Summary: The article introduces a low-loss enhanced backscattering fiber doped with MgO-based nanoparticles for distributed sensing applications, which shows a significant scattering increment and low losses. By utilizing scattering-level multiplexing, an extension of sensing length up to 2.4-4.0 times can be achieved.

Application of embedded fibre Bragg grating sensors for structural health monitoring of complex composite structures for marine applications

Magdalena Mieloszyk et al.

Summary: This study presents an application of embedded FBG sensors arrays for evaluation of a complex composite structure - a fast patrol boat. The experimental investigations include spectra analyses for thin laminate sample, a composite sandwich panel, and the boat hull. The quality of sensors spectra and the relationship between strain and temperature were determined, with a linear relationship achieved for both elements. The utility of designed FBG sensors array was verified by sensors responses on impact excitation in chosen points on the structure.
