Formation characteristics of nickel-based diamond abrasive segment by selective laser melting

Shuai Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the characteristics of SLMed nickel-based wheel segments and the mechanism of porosity formation in the SLM process. The observation and analysis reveal that the balling phenomenon of Ni-Cr alloys leads to rough surfaces and porosities. Two types of diamond spatters are considered the main cause of the balling phenomenon.

Numerical and analytical investigation on meltpool temperature of laser-based powder bed fusion of IN718

Mahyar Khorasani et al.

Summary: The prediction of melt pool features in Laser-Based Powder Bed Fusion (LB-PBF) is a complex non-linear multiple phase dynamic problem, which can be effectively controlled by determining melt pool temperature, rheological phenomena, and recoil pressure. Numerical simulations and analytical models are utilized to estimate melt track quality and temperature, showing good agreement in controlling phenomena such as keyhole and conduction modes. The developed spatially thermophysical-based analytical model exhibits good accuracy in predicting melt pool depth for IN718 specimens.

Optimization of surface roughness and dimensional accuracy in LPBF additive manufacturing

Longchao Cao et al.

Summary: The study introduced a data-driven framework to obtain optimal process parameters for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) in order to achieve satisfactory surface roughness and dimensional accuracy. Machine learning techniques were used to predict the accuracy and surface roughness of LPBF products under different process parameters combinations, leading to the use of a whale optimization algorithm to search for the global optimal process parameters. The experiments verified that LPBF parts with better surface finish and dimensional accuracy could be obtained with the optimized process parameters.
