In this study, a high-quality co-doped CYA crystal with Ce(3+) co-dopant was successfully synthesized to enhance the fluorescence properties of Dy3+ for yellow laser emission.
Nowadays, yellow laser has been attractive worldwide since its various applications. Dysprosium (Dy3+) is one the most suitable lanthanide ions for directly producing yellow laser emission, but it suffers from low cross sections and cross-relaxation processes. Herein, the co-doped 0.5% Ce3+/1% Dy3+:CaYAlO4 (CYA) crystal with high optical quality was successfully grown using the Czochralski (Cz) method in a reducing H-2/Ar atmosphere. Spectroscopic properties, including polarized absorption, emission cross-sections, and lifetime, were characterized. Ce(3+ )co-dopant was used as a sensitizer to enhance the fluorescence properties of Dy3+.
