Versatile third components in organic ternary solar cells

Zicheng Fan et al.

Summary: The power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells is continuously improving but still lower than that of inorganic solar cells. Adding a third component can enhance voltage, current and light absorption. This article presents the principles and recent developments of organic ternary solar cells, and discusses the challenges and prospects in this field.

Magneto-electrical properties of nickel phthalocyanine thin film and its application in organic solar cells

S. S. Rawat et al.

Summary: The nickel phthalocyanine (NiPc) thin film is investigated for its magneto-conductance and optoelectrical properties. It is observed that the NiPc thin film has a potential application in polymer solar cells. The study discusses the spin interaction, relaxation time of carriers, and traps filling phenomena using magneto-conductance and impedance spectroscopy techniques. Introduction of NiPc thin film as a hole interface buffer layer in organic solar cells improves the device performance by reducing the series and shunt resistance.

18.02% Efficiency ternary organic solar cells with a small-molecular donor third component

Xianjie Chen et al.

Summary: The ternary strategy using deep-lying HOMO energy level small molecule donor BPR-SCl in the PM6:BTP-eC9 host binary blend has successfully enhanced the power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells. The addition of BPR-SCl improved crystallinity of the photoactive layers and slightly reduced donor/acceptor phase separation scale, resulting in higher PCE, enhanced V-oc and J(sc) in the TOSCs. This study provides new insights into achieving high-performance TOSCs with the highest reported PCE using a small molecule donor as the third component.
