Engineering naphthalimide-cyanine integrated near-infrared dye into ROS-responsive nanohybrids for tumor PDT/PTT/chemotherapy

Tongxia Jin et al.

Summary: Photodynamic (PDT) and photothermal therapies (PTT) are emerging treatments for tumor ablation. The development of structurally diverse near-infrared dyes with long absorption wavelengths is of great significance for PDT and PTT. In this study, a novel near-infrared dye ML880 with a naphthalimide-modified cyanine skeleton was reported. ML880 was co-loaded with a chemotherapeutic drug into ROS-responsive mesoporous organosilica (RMON) to construct nanomedicine NBD&ML@RMON, which demonstrated remarkable tumor inhibition effects through PDT/PTT/chemotherapy in vivo.

Photoabsorption Enhancement in Synthetic-Natural Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells Using Bilayer TiO2 Deposition and Separated Sensitization

Roohollah Nakhaei et al.

Summary: In this study, a new methodology is proposed to increase the optical absorption of dye-sensitized solar cells by cosensitization of synthetic and natural dyes. The results showed that the separated sensitization of each layer improves charge injection and transportation, leading to better dye loading and spectral expansion.

Experimental and first-principles study of a new hydrazine derivative for DSSC applications

Ismail Badran et al.

Summary: In this study, the molecular structure, electronic spectra, and exo-endo isomerization of (1E,2E)-bis[1-(4-nitrophenyl)ethylidene]hydrazine were investigated using experimental and theoretical methods. The interactions and synthon formations of the compound were determined, and the potential applications in DSSC were explored through UV-Vis and emission spectra analysis. The endo isomer was found to be slightly more stable than the exo one, with an estimated activation barrier of 110.5 kJ/mol.

Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells Using a Cocktail of Synthetic (Eosin Y) and Natural (Beetroot, Pomegranate, and Kumkum) Dyes

N. Ruba et al.

Summary: In this study, dye extracts from natural sources were mixed with Eosin Y dye to prepare solar cells. The efficiency of the solar cells with beetroot and Eosin Y dye was the highest, while the cells with pomegranate and Eosin Y showed the lowest efficiency, and the cells with kumkum and Eosin Y fell in between.
