Inclined loading capacity of caisson anchor in South China Sea carbonate sand considering the seabed soil loss

Shengjie Rui et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of seabed soil loss on the bearing capacity of caisson anchors in carbonate sand through centrifuge model tests. The results show that soil loss changes the failure mode of the anchor and reduces its capacity accordingly.

Monotonic behavior of interface shear between carbonate sands and steel

Shengjie Rui et al.

Summary: This study investigated the interface shear characteristics between carbonate sands and steel, finding that particle breakage and steel surface roughness affect the interface shear strength under large displacement. A smoother steel surface results in a smaller interface friction angle, while higher roughness leads to increased interface strength.

The effect of temperature on the drained shear behavior of calcareous sand

Shao-Heng He et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of temperature on the drained shear behavior of calcareous sand. The results show that an increase in temperature aggravates particle breakage, affecting the strength and dilatancy of the sand. A stress-dilatancy equation and an empirical model for phi(cs) were proposed based on the experimental findings.

Cyclic behavior of interface shear between carbonate sand and steel

Shengjie Rui et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the shear behavior of the interface between carbonate sand and steel through a series of shear tests. Factors influencing the behavior such as cyclic amplitude, particle size, surface roughness and normal stress were discussed. The results show that cyclic interface shear results in higher interface shear strength compared to monotonic shear.

Numerical model for suction caisson under axial cyclic loadings

Wenjie Zhou et al.

Summary: This study proposed a numerical model to investigate the response of suction caissons under axial cyclic loadings and validated the model through centrifuge tests. It was found that the threshold amplitude of cyclic tension loadings for suction caisson in typical fine sand seabed generally ranges between 0.4Pu_d and 0.5Pu_d. The contribution of differential pressure to the suction caisson capacity can reach up to about 20% for the stable state. The failure risk of suction caisson in permeable seabed will be obviously increased for low-frequency cyclic tension loadings.

Axial interaction between anchor chain and sand. Part II: Cyclic loading test

Shengjie Rui et al.

Summary: This study investigated the cyclic interaction between anchor chain and sand, and found that cyclic amplitude, confining stress, chain diameter, sand particle size, and relative density have significant influences on this interaction. The axial resistance gradually stabilizes when cyclic displacement is less than half of the chain diameter, but increases due to particle breakage when it is larger. The appearance of a small constant axial resistance adjustment plateau in the chain-sand cyclic interaction curve can be explained by stress release behind the chain link caused by soil arching effect.
