A panel method for the prediction of unsteady performance of ducted propellers in ship behind condition

Seungnam Kim et al.

Summary: In this article, a boundary element method (BEM) is used to predict the unsteady performance of ducted propellers. The method modifies the duct profiles based on predicted streamlines and uses a BEM/RANS coupling scheme to account for viscous interactions. Comparisons are made with experimental measurements and URANS simulations.

Cavitation funnel effect: Bio-inspired leading-edge tubercle application on ducted marine propeller blades

Callum Stark et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the effect of LE tubercles on cavitation on a benchmark ducted propeller blade, finding that the tubercles can reduce sheet cavitation development by up to 50% and increase total thrust coefficient by up to 10% in all operating conditions. Propulsive efficiency in heavy-cavitating conditions can be improved by up to 6.5%.
