An Online Pre-procedural Nomogram for the Prediction of Contrast-Associated Acute Kidney Injury in Patients Undergoing Coronary Angiography

Duanbin Li et al.

Summary: An online pre-procedural nomogram for predicting contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) was established and validated in patients undergoing coronary angiography (CAG). The nomogram integrates seven pre-procedural predictors and shows good discrimination performance and clinical usefulness. It has been deployed online for public use.

Barriers to the Implementation of Primary PCI in the Management of STEMI in Egypt

Sameh Shaheen et al.

Summary: Evidence-based guidelines recommend primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) as the main reperfusion strategy for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treatment in Egypt, but the healthcare system faces challenges in its implementation due to various barriers, including prehospital patient delay, emergency medical service delay, and lack of trained interventional cardiologists. Efforts are needed to address these barriers and improve the current practice of STEMI management in Egypt.

Effect of statins on post-contrast acute kidney injury: a multicenter retrospective observational study

Maoning Lin et al.

Summary: The study indicates that preoperative statins therapy is associated with a lower risk of post-contrast acute kidney injury (PC-AKI) following coronary angiography and intervention, with the protective effect independent of lipid-lowering or anti-inflammatory effects. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were found to mediate the relationship between preoperative statins therapy and PC-AKI, explaining less than 1% of the protective effects.

Association of the classification and severity of heart failure with the incidence of contrast-induced acute kidney injury

Tian Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that congestive heart failure is an independent risk factor for contrast-induced acute kidney injury, while the relationship between the classification and severity of HF and CI-AKI remains under-explored. Low EF levels and high NT-proBNP levels are risk factors for CI-AKI in HF patients, with HFrEF patients more likely to develop CI-AKI. There are differences in the impact of different HF classifications on CI-AKI.
