Stereotactic radiosurgery in the management of petroclival meningiomas: a systematic review and meta-analysis of treatment outcomes of primary and adjuvant radiosurgery

Othman Bin Alamer et al.

Summary: This study summarized the clinical features and outcomes of petroclival meningioma patients treated with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) as either a primary or an adjuvant modality. The results showed that SRS treatment can effectively improve symptoms and achieve tumor control, with excellent long-term survival rates. Primary SRS is more effective for patients with smaller tumors and no significant symptoms, while adjuvant SRS can prevent tumor regrowth while maintaining post-resection function.

Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery for the treatment of chordomas and chondrosarcomas

Julian Cahill et al.

Summary: This study reviewed patients with chordomas and chondrosarcomas treated with Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, UK from 1985 to 2018. It found that early intervention for tumors with volumes less than 7 cm(3) resulted in the best long-term survival rates.

Summary: The study suggests the importance of early detection and treatment, and surgery may enable better conditions for sufficient GK doses. Being male, receiving > 15 Gy of 50% isodose by GK, and screening brain examinations as prophylactic medicine were significant favorable prognostic factors.

Resection of vestibular schwannomas after stereotactic radiosurgery: a systematic review

Max Whitmeyer et al.

Summary: This study focused on evaluating the outcomes of salvage microsurgery (MS) after stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for vestibular schwannomas (VS) based on a review of 20 studies and 300 cases. The primary indication for salvage surgery was tumor growth after an average of 39.4 months post-radiation. The study found no significant differences in outcomes based on surgical approach, but patients who underwent subtotal resection (STR) showed better House-Brackmann outcomes compared to those who had gross-total resection (GTR).
