Differential effects of anodal and dual tDCS on sensorimotor functions in chronic hemiparetic stroke patients

Toni Muffel et al.

Summary: tDCS has profound effects on sensorimotor functions in chronic stroke patients, with more pronounced and favorable effects observed with bilateral-dual (bi-tDCS) compared to unilateral-anodal (ua-tDCS). However, no uniformly beneficial pattern was identified.

Differential Effects of 10 and 20 Hz Brain Stimulation in Chronic Stroke: A tACS-fMRI Study

Kai Yuan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the frequency-specific effects of tACS on chronic stroke. Through tACS and fMRI experiments, it was found that 10 Hz tACS can enhance activation in the ipsilesional precentral area during paretic hand movements, while both 10 Hz and 20 Hz tACS can enhance activation in the contralesional precentral area during non-paretic hand movements. Resting-state seed-based functional connectivity analysis showed that 10 Hz tACS mainly modulates functional connectivity within motor-related regions, while 20 Hz tACS also modulates connectivity in regions beyond motor-related areas. Graph theory analysis further demonstrated the modulation of functional interaction by tACS in the whole-brain level.

fMRI and transcranial electrical stimulation (tES): A systematic review of parameter space and outcomes

Peyman Ghobadi-Azbari et al.

Summary: The combination of non-invasive brain stimulation interventions with human brain mapping methods have provided opportunities for individualized interventions, exploring the neuro-modulatory effects of tES in the targeted brain regions. However, methodological variability between studies may hamper comparability and replicability of findings, highlighting the need to harmonize the methodological parameter space (MPS) in future research.

BCI Training Effects on Chronic Stroke Correlate with Functional Reorganization in Motor-Related Regions: A Concurrent EEG and fMRI Study

Kai Yuan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the neural changes in chronic stroke survivors after BCI training therapy, revealing significant motor function improvement and the correlation with connectivity and information flow changes among different brain regions. The findings demonstrated the feasibility and consistency of combining multiple neuroimaging modalities to study neuroplasticity changes during stroke recovery.

The impact of individual electrical fields and anatomical factors on the neurophysiological outcomes of tDCS: A TMS-MEP and MRI study

Mohsen Mosayebi-Samani et al.

Summary: Individual anatomical factors, such as regional electrode-to-cortex distance and cerebral spinal fluid thickness, were found to significantly impact the effects of tDCS. While these factors negatively correlated with tDCS-induced physiological changes, the electrical fields positively correlated with the effects. These results provide valuable insights into the variability of neuromodulatory effects of tDCS.

The Effects of 10 Hz and 20 Hz tACS in Network Integration and Segregation in Chronic Stroke: A Graph Theoretical fMRI Study

Cheng Chen et al.

Summary: Our study found that 20 Hz tACS may facilitate local segregation in motor-related regions and global integration at the whole-brain level, while 10 Hz only increased segregation at the whole-brain level. Additionally, nodal clustering characteristic in motor-related regions decreased after 10 Hz tACS but increased after 20 Hz tACS.

Comparison of electric field modeling pipelines for transcranial direct current stimulation

Gaurav Bhalerao et al.

Summary: The study compared the differences in electric field prediction in different brain tissues and target brain regions using data from 32 healthy volunteers, indicating variability between different computational modeling pipelines. The results suggest that the integration of electric field modeling and tDCS clinical outcomes will heavily rely on the choice of modeling pipelines and procedures.
